Urdu poet Rahat Indori, who tested positive for coronavirus, passed away at an Indore hospital on Tuesday after suffering two heart attacks, said doctors treating him.
“He suffered two heart attacks on 11 August 2020 and could not be saved. He was admitted to hospital on Sunday, after testing positive for Covid-19. He had 60% pneumonia,” said Dr Vinod Bhandari of Sri Aurobindo Hospital.
Indori’s Twitter bio describes him as “Indian Poet, Painter, Bollywood Lyricist”.
Before he checked himself into the hospital for treatment, the poet had tweeted about being coronavirus positive, asking people to pray for his quick recovery. He further asked people to not call up either him or his home to enquire about his health. He had said they will be getting updates through Twitter.
Dr. Rahat Indori was born on 1 January 1950 in Indore to Rafatullah Qureshi, a cloth mill worker, and his wife Maqbool Un Nisa Begum. Dr. Rahat Indori died on 11 August 2020. He was their fourth child. He did his schooling from Nutan School Indore from where he completed his Higher Secondary. He completed his graduation from Islamia Karimia College (ikdc) Indore in 1973 and has passed his MA in Urdu literature from Barkatullah UniversityBhopal (Madhya Pradesh) in 1975. Equally competent in prose and poetry, Rahat was awarded a PhD in Urdu literature from the Bhoj University of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 for his thesis titled Urdu Main Mushaira.
Dr. Rahat Indori was one of the most acclaimed celebrity, Urdu poet and a bollywood lyricist. Prior to this he was a pedagogist of Urdu literature at Indore University. Rahat Indori was very well known and loved amongst his millions of fans worldwide for his poetic brilliance and a very peculiar style of rendering mushaira.
Dr. Rahat Indori was continuously performing in Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan from last 40 - 45 Years. He has travelled widely internationally to recite poetry. He had attended poetic symposiums in almost all the Districts of India and have also travelled hundred of times to USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, Mauritius, KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal etc.
